This is one of the best outdoors guidebooks, for anyplace, that I've ever read.It is truly a guide to the region. Many hiking or regional guidebooks focus too much effort on very specific details or specific hikes, without providing a good lay of the land (as in, not seeing the forest for the trees). This gives you an excellent overview of each area, what makes it special, while also providing details on specific hikes.I also really like the style of the writing. It is personal and opinionated. Too many guidebooks are written in a very neutral tone, reminiscent of an encyclopedia, that makes it difficult to tell what makes one area unique from another, and what are the standout experiences in a region. This book makes clear what makes each area unique, and what are some of its best experiences.One final note - though this is definitely not a dedicated fishing guide, I got a better sense of the fishing in the region from this book than I did from other dedicated fishing guides. There are some dedicated sections on fishing, and a few callouts throughout the book that give a good sense of the opportunities & highlights. This was a gift for my son. He thought the information contained was good and that he would go to recommended places.
